It’s that time of the year again – Christmas parties! As I’ve been mentioning a lot over the past few weeks, I had my Winter Ball with my Biological Sciences Committee last week. It has taken loads of preparation but it all came together wonderfully in the end.
When we arrived at Caistor Hall Hotel (the venue) it looked absolutely magnificent. The place was decorated top to toe in tinsel and baubles, the girls looked elegant in dresses and the guys looked smart and sophisticated in suits. It was so lovely to have the chance to go to a formal event and dress up a bit more than usual. The night started with a few drinks and photos in the bar. The props the committee made went down a treat – it varied from mustaches to top hats! Then we moved on to have our 3 course meals. As expected, the food was absolutely incredible. Personally I had a starter of Broccoli and Stilton soup served with crispy herb croutons, a main of Salmon fillet served with herb crusted new potatoes and a creamy brown shrimp sauce and some classical Ice cream and sorbet for dessert. Just writing about it is making me want to go back and eat it again! With the meals the committee arranged for a selection of wines, beers and soft drinks to be spread across the table which added to the merry spirits.
We continued the party downstairs in the dance floor after our meal where we were all provided with ‘fake money’ to use on the casino entertainment. My friend put their winnings on 21 on roulette at one point and I teased them that it would now come out as 22, and it did! So I then thought I had a special talent so started playing and… lost everything. At least it wasn’t real money! When we were done with the casino the night was spent on the dance floor and chatting to people I don’t normally see outside of lectures.
I’ve put a few pictures below, I could write for pages and pages about how much I enjoyed myself but a picture speaks a thousand words! Most committees arrange similar events to these, so it’s something to look out for. Please feel free to comment about your Christmas party experience’s!
